Shohei Ohtani gave the Dodgers an early lift, homering to center 437 feet in the first inning to open the scoring. He finished 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI, carrying a .293 average with 22 home runs and 58 RBI on the season. Tommy Edman added a two-RBI single in the third that scored both Ohtani and Andy Pages, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Arizona chipped away starting in the fifth.
