One swing changed everything. Kazuma Okamoto's home run in the sixth inning lifted Toronto to a 2-1 victory over Miami, snapping a losing streak despite being outhit 11-5 at Rogers Centre.
Okamoto went 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI, carrying a .218 average with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs this season. His 393-foot blast to right center field in the sixth inning provided the margin of victory.
Miami struck first when Lopez singled to center, bringing Edwards home in the opening inning. Toronto answered in the fifth as Lukes doubled to right, scoring Heineman to tie the game 1-1. Okamoto homered to right center in the sixth, giving the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Despite the loss, Miami's offense dominated the hit column. Lopez went 4-for-4 with an RBI, carrying a .342 average. Edwards added three hits in four plate appearances. Eury Perez struck out nine batters over four scoreless innings for Miami, allowing three hits with no walks. Andrew Nardi took the loss, allowing one run over 1.1 innings.
Jeff Hoffman earned the win for Toronto with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Tyler Rogers recorded his second save with a perfect ninth inning. Toronto improved to 26-29 while Miami fell to 26-30.
