Eury Perez controlled the strike zone for six-plus innings, and Owen Caissie drove in both Miami runs as the Marlins defeated the New York Mets 2-1 at loanDepot park.
Perez (3-6) allowed just two hits and one run over 6.1 innings, striking out five without issuing a walk. The right-hander threw 86 pitches to earn his third win of the season, carrying a 4.91 ERA.
Juan Soto staked New York to an early lead with a 449-foot home run to right center in the first inning. Miami answered in the second when Caissie grounded out to first, bringing Esteury Ruiz home to tie the game 1-1. Caissie provided the margin in the fourth with an RBI single to center that scored Ruiz again.
Sean Manaea suffered his first loss of the season for the Mets, allowing one run on four hits over 3.2 innings. Jonah Tong followed with three scoreless innings of relief, allowing no hits while striking out two. Peter Fairbanks closed out the ninth for Miami, earning his sixth save despite allowing a walk.
The victory snapped Miami's three-game losing streak and improved the Marlins to 22-29. New York fell to 22-28 after winning their previous game. Fairbanks moved within four saves of reaching 100 for his career.
