Meyer (5-0) allowed just one hit over seven innings, striking out eight while walking three. The right-hander faced minimal trouble, retiring 15 of the final 18 batters he faced. His ERA: 2.52.

Miami built its lead early and methodically. Owen Caissie doubled to right in the second inning, scoring Jakob Marsee and Connor Norby for a 2-0 advantage. Liam Hicks homered to right center in the third, then added another solo shot to right in the fifth for the final margin.

Freddy Peralta (3-4) matched Meyer through the early innings but surrendered all four runs over seven innings. The veteran struck out nine but allowed eight hits, including both of Hicks' home runs. Peralta is eight innings away from 1,000 career innings pitched.

The Mets avoided the shutout when Mark Vientos singled home Tyrone Taylor in the ninth. Miami improved to 23-29 while New York fell to 22-29.
