The game was over in the first inning. Toronto scored eight runs before Arizona recorded an out, turning what should have been a competitive matchup into a 10-4 rout at Chase Field.
Kazuma Okamoto led the assault with three RBIs, going 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run. Nathan Lukes added three RBIs of his own on three hits, including a three-run double that capped the opening explosion. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. contributed two RBIs and scored twice, extending his strong start to the season with a .333 average.
The carnage began when Guerrero Jr. singled to right, scoring Lukes and Clement for a 2-0 lead. Jiménez followed with an RBI single, then Okamoto doubled home two more runs. Lukes delivered the crushing blow with his bases-clearing double, making it 8-0 before Ryne Nelson could escape the inning.
Nelson lasted just one-third of an inning, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits. Kevin Gausman earned the victory for Toronto, working six innings while allowing two earned runs on seven hits with a 2.86 ERA. Brandon Pfaadt provided the only bright spot for Arizona, settling down after the early chaos to pitch 6.1 innings of one-run ball.
Toronto snapped a four-game losing streak to improve to 7-13, while Arizona's four-game winning streak ended as they fell to 13-8. Nolan Arenado remains one run away from 1,000 career runs, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is four games from his 1,000th career game.
