Schmitt's three-run homer — his 19th of the season — came with San Francisco tied 1-1 and put the Giants ahead 4-1 in an instant. He finished 1-for-4 with 3 RBI, pushing his season total to 50. Tyler Mahle gave the offense something to work with, holding Colorado to 1 run over 7.0 innings on 5 hits, walking 3 and striking out 4 on 104 pitches. He picked up his second win of the year against eight losses, carrying a 5.31 ERA.
Colorado had taken the lead in the third when Brett Sullivan scored on a balk, giving the Rockies a 1-0 edge. San Francisco answered in the fifth: Bryce Eldridge scored on a J. Rodríguez double to center, tying the game at 1-1. Then came the sixth. Heliot Ramos and Luis Arraez both scored ahead of Schmitt's blast, turning a tie into a three-run cushion that Colorado never threatened seriously.
Kyle Freeland took the loss, falling to 2-8. He allowed all 4 runs on 6 hits over 6.0 innings, striking out 9 without issuing a walk — a strong strikeout line that still wasn't enough against a Giants offense that concentrated its damage in one inning. Kyle Karros hit a solo homer to left center in the eighth, a 435-foot shot that made it 4-2, but JT Brubaker closed out the final two innings for his first save of the season.
