Nothing was settled until the eighth inning. Colorado trailed by two when Kyle Karros sent a 471-foot blast to left center, scoring Rumfield and Fulford ahead of him, and the Rockies walked off with a 7-6 win over the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field.
The Giants had the better story through six innings. Rafael Devers went 2-for-5 with two home runs and 2 RBI, providing San Francisco's most dangerous moments. He pulled the Giants even in the fifth with a solo shot to right (463 feet), then Drew Gilbert contributed a 4-for-4 afternoon with a two-run homer in the second and an RBI single in the sixth, finishing with 3 RBI. The Giants built a 6-4 lead entering the eighth and appeared in control.
Then Karros ended it. His three-run homer — the only hit of his 1-for-4 night — turned a 6-4 deficit into a 7-6 lead in a single swing. Victor Vodnik, who worked a scoreless seventh, earned the win to improve to 3-3. Jordan Romano retired the side in the ninth for his fifth save of the season. Dylan Smith, who allowed all three runs in the eighth on 1.0 inning of work, took his first loss of the season, falling to 0-1.
Colorado starter Tanner Gordon gave up 5 runs on 6 hits over 5.0 innings, striking out 7. He did not factor in the decision. San Francisco's offense was sharp early — the Giants scored in four of the first six innings — but managed nothing in the final three frames. Casey Schmitt added a solo homer in the fifth for San Francisco, his 17th of the season.
Colorado falls to 36-54 despite the win snapping a one-game skid. San Francisco moves to 37-51, ending a one-game losing streak of their own.
