The eighth inning belonged to chaos. Colorado scored five runs to erase a two-run deficit, Los Angeles answered with two of their own to tie it, and the Rockies needed one more swing in the ninth to escape with a 9-8 victory at Angel Stadium.
Hunter Goodman delivered the decisive blow in Colorado's eighth-inning rally, launching a three-run homer to left field that turned a 6-4 deficit into an 8-6 lead. Goodman went 1-for-5 with three RBIs and one home run, his 14th of the season. Jake McCarthy sparked the comeback with a double and later scored twice, finishing 2-for-4 with one homer and two walks.
The Angels refused to fold. Jorge Soler tripled to right field in the bottom of the eighth, bringing home Adam Frazier and Donovan Walton to tie the game at 8-8. But Colorado had the final word when TJ Rumfield hit a sacrifice fly to right field in the ninth, scoring Kyle Karros for the winning run.
Kirby Yates suffered his first loss of the season, allowing one run in the ninth inning. Antonio Senzatela earned the win in relief, improving to 5-0 with a 1.30 ERA. Jose Siri had powered the Angels' early surge with a grand slam in the third inning, finishing with four RBIs.
Both teams entered with identical losing streaks, and both remain in last place in their respective divisions. Colorado improved to 22-38 while Los Angeles fell to 23-37. Senzatela is two wins away from 50 career victories, while Yates sits one save shy of 100 for his career.
