Tampa Bay built a three-run advantage through three innings and protected it the rest of the way, defeating Los Angeles 5-2 at Tropicana Field. The Rays answered every Angels threat to snap a one-game losing streak.
Shane McClanahan earned the victory with five innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits while striking out three. The left-hander improved to 6-2 with a 2.45 ERA, working efficiently through 70 pitches without issuing a walk.
Jonathan Aranda opened the scoring in the first inning with a 409-foot home run to right field. Tampa Bay extended the lead in the third when Aranda scored on Victor Mesa's single to center, then Richie Palacios came home on Cedric Mullins' bases-loaded walk. The Rays added insurance runs in the seventh on Ben Williamson's RBI single and Yandy Díaz's run-scoring walk.
Los Angeles managed only two runs despite nine hits. Jose Siri scored on a McClanahan wild pitch in the second to tie the game temporarily, and Logan O'Hoppe connected for a solo home run in the seventh. Jack Kochanowicz took the loss, allowing three runs over 2.1 innings while walking four batters.
Bryan Baker recorded his 16th save with a scoreless ninth inning. Tampa Bay improved to 35-20 and maintained first place in their division, while Los Angeles fell to 23-36.
