The game was decided in the final swing. Bryan Reynolds launched a two-run homer to left field in the ninth inning, lifting Pittsburgh to a 6-5 victory over Minnesota at PNC Park.
Reynolds went 1-for-3 with two RBI and two walks, providing the decisive blow after the Pirates trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the ninth. Oneil Cruz also homered for Pittsburgh, going 1-for-3 with one RBI and carrying a .258 average with 12 home runs this season.
Reynolds homered to left, Callihan scored. The blast capped a back-and-forth affair that saw five lead changes through the first three innings. Trevor Larnach had given Minnesota a 5-3 advantage in the third with a 424-foot homer to right that scored Bell, but Cruz answered immediately with a 450-foot shot of his own.
Taylor Rogers took the loss for Minnesota, allowing 2 runs in just one-third of an inning. Gregory Soto earned the win for Pittsburgh with a scoreless ninth inning, improving to 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA.
Pittsburgh snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 29-28. Minnesota fell to 27-30, extending their losing streak to two games. Bell remains two home runs away from 200 career homers.
