Henry Davis broke a 1-1 tie with a seventh-inning home run, lifting Pittsburgh to a 2-1 victory over Chicago and snapping the Cubs' eight-game winning streak Sunday at PNC Park.
Davis went 1-for-3 with one RBI, his fourth home run of the season. The blast traveled 413 feet to left field and proved the difference in a tight contest between the division rivals.
Davis homered to left in the seventh inning to give Pittsburgh the lead it would not relinquish. Earlier, Brandon Lowe doubled to left in the third inning, bringing Horwitz home for the game's first run. Michael Busch answered for Chicago in the fifth with a 409-foot homer to center field that tied the game.
Ben Brown carried Chicago through six innings, allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. His 83-pitch effort kept the Cubs within striking distance, but Trent Thornton absorbed his first loss of the season after surrendering Davis's decisive homer in one inning of relief work.
Pittsburgh improved to 27-26 with the victory, while Chicago fell to 29-24. Wilber Dotel earned his first win of the season with three scoreless innings of relief, and Gregory Soto recorded his sixth save.
