The sixth inning changed everything. New York scored seven runs in one frame to transform a 1-0 lead into an 8-0 advantage, cruising to a 10-5 victory over Colorado at Coors Field.
Freddy Peralta earned the win with five shutout innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out one. The right-hander carried a 3.12 ERA into the game and held Colorado scoreless through five frames before the bullpen took over.
The Mets built their lead methodically before the sixth-inning outburst. Juan Soto opened the scoring with a 435-foot homer to left center in the first inning. New York added three more in the fourth when Carson Benge singled home Brett Baty and Marcus Semien, then Luis Torrens grounded out to score Benge. The sixth inning began with Francisco Alvarez singling home Semien, followed by Soto's sacrifice fly that scored Benge. Bo Bichette then singled home Alvarez before Tyrone Taylor's fielder's choice brought home Torrens on an error by second baseman Edouard Julien.
Colorado answered immediately in the bottom of the sixth. TJ Rumfield homered to right, Troy Johnston doubled home Tyler Freeman, and Jake McCarthy capped the rally with a two-run homer to right center. Michael Lorenzen took the loss, allowing seven runs on 11 hits over five innings with a 6.92 ERA.
The Mets extended their winning streak to two games and improved to 13-22. Colorado's losing streak reached five games as they fell to 14-22. Devin Williams earned his fifth save and sits 15 strikeouts away from 500 career strikeouts.
