The Cardinals broke open a tight game with one decisive swing in the fourth inning, defeating the Brewers 6-3 at Busch Stadium. Ivan Herrera's three-RBI double to center field turned a 1-0 lead into a commanding 4-0 advantage that Milwaukee never seriously threatened.
Kyle Leahy earned the victory with 5.1 innings of work, allowing 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 5. The right-hander carried a 4.93 ERA into the game and improved to 4-3 on the season. Riley O'Brien closed out the final two outs for his 10th save.
Herrera's double scored Church, Wetherholt and Pagés in the fourth inning, capping a rally that began with three consecutive baserunners against Chad Patrick. The Cardinals had opened the scoring in the second when Wetherholt singled home Winn, then added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth on RBI singles by Winn and Wetherholt.
Patrick absorbed the loss, falling to 2-2 after allowing 4 runs on 7 hits over 3.1 innings with a 3.45 ERA. Milwaukee managed only one run through eight innings before Brice Turang's two-run homer in the ninth made the final score respectable. Turang went 3-for-5 with the home run and 2 RBI, while Jackson Chourio collected 4 hits in the loss.
St. Louis improved to 20-14 and snapped a one-game losing streak. Milwaukee fell to 18-15 with the defeat.
