The game was decided in the first inning. Max Fried pitched eight shutout innings and the New York Yankees built an early lead they never relinquished, defeating the Boston Red Sox 4-1 at Fenway Park.
Fried dominated from the start, allowing just three hits while striking out nine batters over eight innings. The left-hander walked two and carried a 2.40 ERA into his third win of the season. He retired the side in order five times and never allowed Boston to mount a serious threat.
Amed Rosario provided all the offense New York needed with a three-run homer in the first inning. Judge and Stanton both scored on Rosario's 416-foot blast to left center. Rosario added a sacrifice fly in the third inning that scored Judge again, completing a four-RBI performance on just one official at-bat.
Ranger Suarez struggled for Boston, lasting just 4.2 innings while allowing five hits and four runs. The left-hander struck out four but walked two and took his second loss of the season. His ERA stands at 4.00. Jarren Duran provided Boston's lone bright spot with three hits, including two doubles, and drove in the team's only run with a ninth-inning single that scored Trevor Story.
New York extended its winning streak to four games and improved to 14-9, maintaining first place in the division. Boston fell to 9-14 and last place after the loss. Duran sits five stolen bases away from 100 career steals.
