Alejandro Kirk will undergo surgery on his broken left thumb with a 6-week recovery timeline after having a screw placed.
The Blue Jays catcher was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 6, 2026, following the injury. Kirk was injured on April 5 when he was struck by a foul tip during Friday's game.
Kirk posted strong offensive numbers in the 2025 season, batting .282 with 15 home runs and 76 RBI across 130 games for Toronto. He recorded 127 hits in 451 at-bats with 48 walks and 59 strikeouts. In the 2024 season, Kirk appeared in 103 games with 86 hits, 5 home runs, and 54 RBI.
Tyler Heineman and rookie Brandon Valenzuela are handling the catching duties until Kirk returns. The two-time All-Star's absence extends well beyond the minimum 10-day injured list stint.
