The Blue Jays acquired Tyler Fitzgerald from the Giants in exchange for cash considerations.

Fitzgerald was optioned to the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate. The Giants designated Fitzgerald for assignment earlier in April 2026, ending a tenure that began when San Francisco made him a fourth-round pick in the 2019 draft. He made his MLB debut in 10 games during the 2023 season.

Fitzgerald hit .280/.334/.497 over 341 plate appearances in the 2024 season with 15 home runs and 17 stolen bases in 21 attempts. His production declined in the 2025 season, hitting .217/.278/.327 over 243 plate appearances. A left rib fracture sent him to the 10-day injured list for over two weeks at the start of May 2025, and he was hitting .284/.341/.432 in 90 plate appearances before the injury.

The Giants optioned Fitzgerald to Triple-A in June 2025, and he played in only 15 MLB games after June 29 after being repeatedly called up and sent back down to the minors. The majority of Fitzgerald's MLB playing time has come at shortstop, but he has seen time at every position on the diamond except catcher.
