The game was decided before most fans had settled into their seats. Detroit scored four runs in the first inning, and Tarik Skubal made sure that was more than enough, shutting down the Angels for seven innings in a 7-0 win at Angel Stadium.

Skubal allowed five hits and no runs over 7.0 innings, walking none and striking out nine. He improved to 6-5 on the season, carrying a 2.83 ERA. The Tigers' bullpen closed it out cleanly, covering the final two innings without allowing a run.
Detroit's first inning began quietly enough before it didn't. Colt Keith singled to center to score McGonigle and give the Tigers a lead they would never relinquish. Two batters later, Spencer Torkelson turned on a pitch and drove it 415 feet to left-center for a three-run homer, plating Dingler and Keith and making it 4-0. Detroit tacked on two more in the second, with Keith and Riley Greene each delivering sacrifice flies to score Outman and McGonigle. Torkelson added a solo shot to center in the fifth, his second homer of the night, for the final margin.
Grayson Rodriguez took the loss for Los Angeles, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits over 4.0 innings with a walk and three strikeouts. He fell to 3-3 on the season. The Angels' bullpen limited the damage after his exit, allowing just 1 run over 5.0 innings, but the offense could never solve Skubal, managing seven hits with nothing to show for them.
Detroit improved to 46-52 with the win, snapping in with its second straight victory. Los Angeles dropped to 38-61, losing its fourth in a row. Torkelson finished a home run shy of 100 for his career, and Skubal sits 13 strikeouts from 1,000 for his career.
