Kansas City did its damage early and let the rest of the night take care of itself. Lane Thomas hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and the Royals never trailed on their way to a 6-1 win over San Diego at Kauffman Stadium.

Thomas finished 2-for-4 with the homer and 2 RBIs, carrying the offense from the opening frame. Carter Jensen scored twice and added two hits, including a double, while Salvador Perez went deep in the sixth inning for two more RBIs. Griffin Canning, San Diego's starter, allowed 4 runs on 5 hits over 3.2 innings before handing the ball to the bullpen.
Thomas got things started with a 421-foot homer to left center that scored Jensen and put Kansas City ahead 2-0, a lead the Royals would not relinquish. San Diego answered in the third when Fernando Tatis homered to left center, but Kansas City responded in the same inning as Jac Caglianone doubled to left to bring home Jensen again. Isaac Collins singled home Michael Massey in the fourth, and Perez's two-run homer to center in the sixth capped the scoring at 6-1.
Canning took the loss, falling to 1-8 on the season with a 6.67 ERA, as his line included 2 walks and 4 strikeouts alongside the 4 runs. San Diego's bullpen limited further damage, working 4.1 innings and allowing 2 runs, but the offense could not generate more than Tatis' solo shot. Royals starter R. Dobnak went 4.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits before turning things over to a Kansas City bullpen that did not allow a run over 4.2 innings. Daniel Lynch worked 2.0 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win, improving to 3-2 on the season with a 2.23 ERA.
The win pushed Kansas City to 40-59, extending its winning streak to two games. San Diego fell to 48-50, dropping its second straight.
