Philadelphia never trailed. Kyle Schwarber made sure of that before most fans had settled into their seats, and the Phillies cruised from there to a 6-1 win over the Mets at Citizens Bank Park.

Trea Turner was the offensive engine all night, going 3-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and a walk while scoring three runs. His solo shot to left center in the fifth inning stretched the lead to 1-3, part of a night that also included two singles as he continues to press toward career milestones — he sits at 198 home runs and 298 doubles, both closing in on the 200 and 300 marks. On the mound, Jesus Luzardo backed up the support with 5.0 scoreless-caliber innings, allowing just 1 run (1 earned) on 2 hits with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks, improving to 9-4 with the win.
The scoring started early. Schwarber homered to right field in the first inning, a 399-foot shot that brought home Turner and gave Philadelphia a 2-0 lead it would not relinquish. New York answered in the second when Tyrone Taylor homered to left center, cutting the deficit to 1-2, but the Mets could not build on it. Philadelphia pulled away with Turner's solo homer in the fifth and an RBI single from Alec Bohm that scored Schwarber the same inning, then broke it open in the sixth when Bryce Harper's single to right drove in both Bryson Stott and Turner to make it 1-6.
Sean Manaea took the loss for New York, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits over 4.2 innings with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks, falling to 2-5 with a 4.74 ERA. The Mets managed only 3 hits as a team and were undone by 3 errors, unable to generate any sustained pressure against Luzardo or the Phillies bullpen, which combined for 4.0 scoreless innings behind him.
The win pushed Philadelphia to 55-44, second in the division, while New York fell to 41-58. Luzardo's victory was also his 50th career win, a milestone he reached in this outing.
