The Mariners never found a rhythm against him, and he departed with the shutout still fully intact, handing a clean lead to a San Francisco bullpen that finished the job with 2.0 scoreless innings from two relievers. The Giants broke through in the fifth when Eldridge homered to center, a 402-foot shot that also brought home Cavanaugh and put San Francisco ahead 2-0 — a lead they would never relinquish.
