Nothing separated the teams until Kyle Stowers sent one 416 feet to center field in the second inning. That was enough. Miami's pitching did the rest, and the Marlins walked away with a 2-0 victory over Seattle at loanDepot park on Wednesday night.

Stowers' solo shot — his 12th home run of the season — was the only run George Kirby allowed for most of the night, but it proved to be the one he couldn't recover from. Tyler Phillips anchored the Miami effort with five scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits, walking 2, and striking out 3 on 71 pitches. He earned his second win of the season, now 2-3 with a 3.28 ERA. Three Miami relievers covered the final four innings without allowing a run, and Peter Fairbanks closed it out in the ninth with two strikeouts for his 13th save.
Stowers broke the scoreless tie in the second, his homer to center making it 1-0. An inning later, Otto Lopez scored on Xavier Edwards' triple to right, pushing the lead to 2-0. That was the full extent of the scoring. Edwards finished 2-for-4 with the RBI triple; Lopez went 2-for-4 and scored a run, hitting .345 on the season.
Kirby was sharp in stretches but couldn't escape the damage. He allowed 8 hits and 2 runs over 6.0 innings, striking out 7 without issuing a walk on 86 pitches. The loss dropped him to 7-8 with a 3.76 ERA. Seattle managed only 5 hits on the night and never threatened to score.
Miami has now won five straight and improved to 51-42. Seattle dropped to 47-46, losing for the second consecutive game.
