Tolle was the story on the mound. The right-hander worked six innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6, without surrendering a run on 91 pitches. He picked up his fifth win of the season, now 5-6 with a 3.14 ERA. Boston's bullpen covered the final 3 innings, allowing 1 run.

Andruw Monasterio opened the scoring in the second with a solo home run to left, 375 feet, to put Boston ahead 1-0. Later in the same inning, Ceddanne Rafaela launched a two-run shot to left — 383 feet — with Connor Wong scoring ahead of him, pushing the lead to 3-0. Rafaela finished 2-for-5 with 2 RBI. Monasterio went 2-for-4 with a walk. Boston added a fourth run in the fourth when Duran scored on a Wong sacrifice bunt. The Red Sox put the game away in the ninth, scoring 4 runs on a Willson Contreras double that brought home Wilyer Abreu and Wong, a González double that scored Contreras, and a Jarren Duran single that plated González.

Noah Schultz absorbed the loss for Chicago, falling to 2-6. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 7 hits, 4 runs, and 3 walks against 3 strikeouts on 92 pitches, with a 6.00 ERA. The White Sox managed just 4 hits on the night and scored their only run in the seventh when Meidroth scored on a Kyle Teel fielder's choice. Sam Antonacci went 3-for-4 to account for most of Chicago's offensive production.
