Nothing happened for four innings. Then SF scored six runs in two, and Trevor McDonald made sure that was enough. The Giants defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-4 on Wednesday, with McDonald's six-inning gem anchoring a victory built on a pair of decisive middle-inning bursts.

McDonald was the story on the mound. He allowed just one hit over six innings, walked nobody, and struck out five on 90 pitches. He did not allow a run. Caleb Kilian closed it out with a scoreless ninth, striking out two, to earn his seventh save. McDonald improved to 3-6 with a 4.42 ERA.

Heliot Ramos provided the go-ahead run in the fifth, homering to center 427 feet to break a scoreless tie. Later in the inning, Victor Bericoto homered to left center — 422 feet — with Jung Hoo Lee scoring on the play, extending the lead to 3-0. SF added three more in the sixth: Ramos tripled to center, scoring Rafael Devers; Lee then scored on a single by Ramos; and Cavanaugh singled to center to bring Lee home, pushing the lead to 6-0. Ramos finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, and 2 RBI. Bericoto went 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI. Lee was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

Zac Gallen absorbed the loss for Arizona, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits over 5.2 innings with 4 strikeouts and a walk. He fell to 3-8 with a 6.65 ERA. Arizona mounted a four-run rally in the eighth — Pavin Smith singled to score Nolan Arenado, Ketel Marte doubled to left with two scoring on a throwing error by shortstop Koss, and Corbin Carroll grounded out to score Marte — but the deficit was too large. Marte finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.

SF fell to 35-49 despite the win, while Arizona sits at 42-42. Zac Gallen is 6 games played away from 200 in his career.
