The Angels never let Oakland breathe. Walbert Urena set the tone with five innings of dominant work, and Los Angeles built a lead that was never in doubt, cruising to a 7-0 victory Saturday night in Sacramento.
Urena was the story. The right-hander worked 5.0 innings, allowing 4 hits and no runs while striking out 6 without issuing a walk on 90 pitches. With a 2.41 ERA, he picked up his fifth win of the season against five losses, leaving the game with the Angels comfortably ahead.
Los Angeles opened the scoring in the second inning. Donovan Walton singled to right, bringing Jo Adell home to give the Angels a 1-0 lead — the go-ahead run that held for the rest of the game. Jose Siri followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Wade Meckler and pushing the advantage to 2-0. The Angels then broke it open in the sixth, when Zach Neto doubled to left, scoring Walton and Siri to make it 4-0. Two batters later, Nolan Schanuel doubled to right, scoring Tyler Heineman and Neto to extend the lead to 6-0. Denzer Guzman capped the scoring in the seventh with a solo home run to left, a 376-foot shot that made it 7-0.
Oakland starter J. T. Ginn absorbed the loss, falling to 5-4. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 7 hits, 4 runs and 3 walks while striking out 5 on 98 pitches. The Athletics managed only 5 hits on the night and never threatened, leaving the Angels' pitching staff with a clean sheet.
Walton finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Adell also went 3-for-5. Neto drove in 2 runs and Schanuel added 2 more. Despite the win, the Angels fell to 30-47, extending their losing streak to three games. Oakland, which entered having won two straight, dropped to 38-38.
