Chicago scored first, then Colorado took over. The Rockies erased a two-run deficit with a five-run burst across the fourth and fifth innings Tuesday at Wrigley Field, beating the Cubs 5-2 before 35,183 fans.
TJ Rumfield supplied the blow that flipped the game. With Colorado trailing 2-1 in the fourth, Willi Castro's double brought Jake McCarthy home to tie it, and then Rumfield launched a two-run homer to right center — 385 feet — to put the Rockies ahead for good. Rumfield finished 1-for-4 with 2 RBI, pushing his season totals to 11 home runs and 37 RBI. Castro went 1-for-3 with a walk and 2 RBI on the night, batting .282 on the season.
Colorado added two more in the fifth. B. Sullivan scored on a wild pitch by Ryan Rolison, and Ezequiel Tovar crossed the plate on a groundout by Castro, extending the lead to 5-2. The Cubs had built their early cushion on Pete Crow-Armstrong's first-inning solo homer to right — 386 feet — and a wild pitch by Ryan Feltner that brought Matt Shaw home in the second. Crow-Armstrong went 1-for-5 with 1 RBI, now at 14 home runs and 36 RBI this season.
Edward Cabrera absorbed the loss, falling to 4-4. He allowed 5 runs on 3 hits over 4.1 innings, walking 2 and striking out 3 on 67 pitches, carrying a 5.21 ERA. The win went to Blas Castano, who earned his first win of the season — 1-0 — with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief. Jaden Hill closed it out with a clean ninth for his first save of the season.
Colorado moved to 27-45 with the victory. Chicago dropped to 37-35. Cabrera is 1 out away from 500 career innings pitched.
