Wheeler was in command from the start. He allowed no runs, scattered just two hits, and punched out nine batters in six innings of work, improving to 6-1 with a 2.01 ERA. The bullpen finished what he started, combining to keep Miami off the board through nine innings.
The Phillies scored in four separate innings, never needing a big burst to put the game away. Gabriel Rincones Jr. opened the scoring with a solo home run to right in the second, a 385-foot shot that gave Philadelphia an early cushion. In the third, Marsh scored on a Rincones Jr. fielder's choice, and then Stott crossed the plate on a Justin Crawford single to center, pushing the lead to 3-0. J.T. Realmuto provided the biggest blow of the night in the fifth, a two-run home run to left that traveled 412 feet and scored Stott, extending the advantage to 5-0. The Phillies added two more in the eighth on sacrifice flies by Alec Bohm and Bryce Harper, with Crawford and Edmundo Sosa each scoring.
Miami starter Ryan Gusto absorbed the loss, falling to 0-2. He lasted just 4.2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 5 runs — all earned — while walking 3 and striking out 1 on 91 pitches. His ERA stands at 7.24. The Marlins managed only four hits as a team and never threatened to score.
Philadelphia moved to 38-33, sitting second in the division. Miami stands at 36-36, fourth in the division. Crawford finished 3-for-4 with an RBI. Rincones Jr. and Realmuto each drove in two runs.
