The scoreboard told the story of a night when pitching took a holiday. Colorado erupted for 23 runs on 24 hits, overwhelming Oakland 23-9 in a slugfest that saw 32 total runs and seven home runs at Las Vegas Ballpark.
Willi Castro carried the offensive assault, going 4-for-6 with two home runs and seven RBIs. His second-inning two-run homer gave Colorado a 5-4 lead, and his grand slam in the eighth inning capped a five-run frame that put the game out of reach. Hunter Goodman added five hits and four RBIs, including two home runs, while Troy Johnston contributed four RBIs with a home run and double.
The Rockies seized control with a six-run fifth inning that turned an 8-6 deficit into a 14-6 advantage. Goodman's solo homer started the rally, followed by RBI hits from Kyle Karros, Johnston, Braxton Fulford and Castro before Tyler Freeman's triple drove in the sixth run of the frame. Colorado added four more runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to complete the rout.
Tomoyuki Sugano earned the victory despite allowing eight runs over five innings, surrendering nine hits and two walks while striking out two. Jeffrey Springs absorbed the loss for Oakland, giving up eight runs in four innings on seven hits with five strikeouts. The Athletics managed 15 hits of their own, with Tyler Soderstrom homering twice and Max Muncy adding a two-run shot.
Colorado snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 26-45, while Oakland's four-game winning streak ended as they fell to 35-35. Springs is eight games away from 200 career appearances.
