The game turned on one extraordinary inning. New York scored 13 runs in the third to erase a three-run deficit and defeat Oakland 13-8 at Sutter Health Park.
Will Warren (7-1) dominated after the early trouble, allowing six hits over six innings without surrendering an earned run. He struck out five and walked three, carrying a 3.22 ERA. Warren benefited from the offensive explosion that transformed a 0-3 deficit into a 13-3 lead.
The third inning featured nine consecutive scoring plays. Paul Goldschmidt's infield single brought home Anthony Volpe to start the rally. Ben Rice doubled home two runs to tie the game, then Aaron Judge singled home Goldschmidt for the lead. Jose Caballero's walk forced in another run before Trent Grisham singled home two more. Volpe added an RBI single, Max Schuemann doubled home two runs, and Rice capped the inning with a two-run triple. Cody Bellinger's single brought Rice home for the 13th run of the frame.
Jacob Lopez (4-3) absorbed the loss, allowing seven runs over two innings. The Athletics mounted a late rally with Brent Rooker's solo homer in the seventh and Jonah Heim's three-run blast in the same inning, but could not overcome the deficit.
New York improved to 36-23 and snapped a losing streak. Oakland fell to 28-31 with the loss.
