The Reds answered every Atlanta challenge in a 6-4 victory that featured lead changes and timely hitting from both sides at Great American Ball Park.
JJ Bleday drove in two runs with a pair of doubles, going 2-for-4 to pace Cincinnati's offense. Eugenio Suarez added a solo home run in the seventh inning and finished 1-for-3 with two RBI. Elly De La Cruz and Spencer Steer each scored twice, with De La Cruz going 2-for-2 and Steer collecting two hits in four at-bats.
The game began with Ronald Acuna Jr. launching a 438-foot home run to left center in the first inning, but Cincinnati immediately responded when Bleday doubled home De La Cruz. Bleday struck again in the third, doubling to right to score De La Cruz and give the Reds their first lead. Steer scored on Will Benson's double in the fourth when Acuna Jr. committed a fielding error in right field, extending Cincinnati's advantage to 3-1.
Nick Lodolo earned the victory despite allowing 3 runs over 6.2 innings, walking four and striking out four. Spencer Strider suffered his first loss of the season, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) in five innings with eight strikeouts. Sam Moll recorded his first save of the season with a third of an inning of work.
Cincinnati improved to 29-28 and snapped a three-game losing streak. Atlanta fell to 40-19 despite Acuna Jr.'s 2-for-3 performance with a home run and two RBI. Nick Lodolo is 22 strikeouts away from 500 career strikeouts, while Ozzie Albies sits two stolen bases away from 100 career steals.
