Jesus Luzardo controlled the strike zone for six innings, and two home runs provided all the offense Philadelphia needed in a 3-0 victory over San Diego at Petco Park.
Luzardo allowed four hits and struck out six over six scoreless innings, carrying a 4.52 ERA. The left-hander walked two but never allowed the Padres to mount a serious threat, improving to 4-4 on the season.
Kyle Schwarber opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run to right field. The leadoff man struck again in the seventh, reaching base ahead of Brandon Marsh's two-run homer that extended Philadelphia's lead to 3-0. Schwarber finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Marsh went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Griffin Canning absorbed the loss for San Diego, allowing three runs over 6.2 innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked three, falling to 0-3 with a 7.54 ERA. The Padres managed five hits but could not solve Philadelphia's pitching staff.
Jhoan Duran closed out the ninth inning for his 10th save, reaching 100 career saves in the process. Philadelphia snapped a losing streak to improve to 26-27, while San Diego fell to 31-21.
