The game swung back and forth for 10 innings before Edgar Quero settled it with one swing. His two-run homer to center field in the bottom of the 10th lifted the White Sox to a 9-8 victory over the Cubs in front of 38,608 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Quero went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, carrying a .174 average into the game. His walkoff blast capped a night that saw the lead change hands multiple times. Tristan Peters also homered for Chicago, a three-run shot in the eighth that gave the White Sox a 7-4 lead.
The Cubs appeared to force extra innings when Michael Conforto launched a three-run homer to center in the ninth, tying the game 7-7. Chicago had taken that three-run advantage when Peters homered to right, scoring Benintendi and Quero. But Conforto's 414-foot blast brought the Cubs level and sent the game to the 10th.
Ryan Rolison took the loss for Chicago, allowing 2 runs in just one-third of an inning. Tyler Davis earned the win for the White Sox, working a scoreless 10th despite walking three batters. The Cubs had taken an early 3-0 lead on Michael Busch's two-run homer and a wild pitch.
The White Sox improved to 23-22 and snapped a losing streak. The Cubs fell to 29-17. Alex Bregman finished 2-for-5 with 2 RBI for Chicago and sits one double away from 300 career doubles.
