Cristopher Sanchez dominated from the first pitch to the last, throwing a complete-game shutout with 13 strikeouts as Philadelphia blanked Pittsburgh 6-0 at PNC Park on Saturday.
Sanchez was untouchable across nine innings, allowing six hits without issuing a walk while striking out 13 Pirates batters on 108 pitches. The left-hander improved to 5-2 with a 1.82 ERA, completing his second shutout of the season.
The Phillies seized control immediately when Bryce Harper launched a three-run homer to center field in the first inning, a 457-foot blast that scored Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber. Philadelphia extended the lead to 5-0 in the second when Schwarber doubled to right, scoring Turner on a throwing error by right fielder Jared Triolo while J.T. Realmuto also crossed the plate.
Bubba Chandler struggled through three innings for Pittsburgh, allowing five runs on three hits while walking four batters. The right-hander struck out two but took the loss to fall to 1-5 with a 5.14 ERA.
Harper finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs and 11 home runs this season. Turner went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and sits 10 doubles away from 300 career doubles. Philadelphia extended its winning streak to two games and improved to 22-23, while Pittsburgh fell to 24-21.
