Wacha dominated over seven innings, allowing just two hits while striking out six and walking two. The right-hander carried a 2.63 ERA into the game and improved to 4-2 on the season, holding Detroit scoreless until the eighth inning when the bullpen took over.

The Royals struck immediately in the first inning when Bobby Witt hit an inside-the-park home run to right field, scoring Maikel Garcia to give Kansas City a 2-0 lead. The offense exploded again in the fourth when Michael Massey launched a three-run homer to right center, scoring Carter Jensen and Jac Caglianone to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Detroit's offense managed just four hits against Kansas City pitching. Burch Smith took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits in just one-third of an inning during the fourth-inning rally. Riley Greene provided the Tigers' only run with an eighth-inning double that scored Kevin McGonigle, but it was far too little, too late.

Kansas City improved to 18-21 and snapped a losing streak, while Detroit fell to 18-21 and extended their losing streak to four games.
