The game turned in one devastating inning. Toronto scored seven runs in the fifth to break open what had been a quiet contest, ultimately routing Los Angeles 14-1 at Rogers Centre.
Benny Valenzuela anchored the offensive explosion, going 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Ernie Clement matched him with five hits in five at-bats, including a solo homer in the seventh. Jesus Sanchez added a two-run homer in the eighth as part of his 2-for-4 night with two RBIs.
The fifth inning began with Okamoto singling home Barger, then Sánchez drove in Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with another single. A throwing error by pitcher Kochanowicz allowed Okamoto to score and put two more runners in scoring position. Clement followed with an RBI single before Valenzuela capped the rally with a three-run homer to left field, extending the lead to 8-0.
Jack Kochanowicz absorbed the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits over four innings with no strikeouts. Trey Yesavage pitched four scoreless innings for Toronto, striking out six while allowing four hits. Mason Fluharty earned the win with a perfect fifth inning.
Toronto improved to 17-21 and snapped a losing streak. Los Angeles fell to 15-24. George Springer is three hits away from 1,500 career hits.
