Janson Junk controlled the game from the start, allowing one hit over five shutout innings as Miami defeated St. Louis 4-1 Tuesday night at loanDepot park.

Junk struck out two and walked one over 56 pitches, earning his first win of the season to improve to 1-2. The right-hander carried a 3.67 ERA into the game and dominated a Cardinals lineup that managed just four hits total.

Miami built its lead early with two runs in the second inning. Caissie singled to left to bring home Ramírez, then Marsee walked to score Hernández for a 2-0 advantage. The Marlins added insurance runs in the fourth when Marsee singled to right to score Jiménez, and again in the fifth when Ramírez singled to center to bring home Lopez.

Kyle Leahy took the loss for St. Louis, allowing eight hits and four earned runs over five innings while walking three. His ERA stands at 5.63. The Cardinals managed only token resistance until the ninth inning, when Herrera homered to left center to prevent the scoreless outing.

Miami snapped a one-game losing streak to improve to 11-13, while St. Louis saw its winning streak end and fell to 14-9. Peter Fairbanks earned his fifth save and sits five saves away from 100 for his career.
