The game belonged to the eighth inning. Cleveland erased a two-run deficit with six runs in the frame, turning a 4-2 loss into an 8-4 victory over Houston at Progressive Field.
Angel Martinez carried the Guardians' offense with two hits and a home run, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. His solo shot in the second inning gave Cleveland an early 2-0 lead. Martinez is batting .275 with three home runs and 10 RBIs this season.
The decisive eighth began with Rocchio's RBI single that scored Schneemann to cut the deficit to 4-3. DeLauter then delivered the crushing blow, tripling to left field to score Martinez, Rocchio and Kwan for a 6-4 lead. Manzardo capped the rally with a two-run single that scored DeLauter and Ramírez.
Houston had seized control earlier behind Yordan Alvarez's production. Alvarez drove in three runs on two hits, including a two-run single in the fifth that gave the Astros a 2-3 lead. Alvarez is hitting .330 with 10 home runs and 24 RBIs. Enyel De Los Santos took the loss, allowing three runs in just one-third of an inning with a 4.50 ERA.
Cleveland improved to 13-11 and maintained first place in their division. Houston fell to 9-15 despite the offensive effort that produced 10 hits.
