Brady Singer controlled the strike zone for six innings, allowing Cincinnati to hold off San Francisco 2-1 in a game decided by home runs at Great American Ball Park.
Singer (1-1) scattered six hits and walked none while striking out one, earning his first win of the season. The right-hander carried a 5.60 ERA into the game but kept the Giants off balance throughout his outing, throwing 75 pitches over six innings.
The Reds built their lead on solo home runs in consecutive innings. Spencer Steer homered to left center in the third inning, a 401-foot blast that opened the scoring. Sal Stewart followed with a 390-foot shot to right center in the fourth, extending the lead to 2-0. Willy Adames answered for San Francisco in the fifth with a 386-foot home run to left, but that would be all the Giants could manage.
Robbie Ray (2-2) took the loss despite allowing just two hits over five innings. The left-hander struck out six but walked four batters, throwing 94 pitches. His ERA stands at 2.42. Luis Arraez collected three hits for San Francisco but the Giants left runners on base throughout the game. Emilio Pagan earned his fifth save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Cincinnati improved to 9-7 after snapping a one-game losing streak. San Francisco fell to 6-10, extending their losing streak to two games.
