The Padres turned Petco Park into a launching pad, scoring in six different innings to overwhelm Colorado 7-2 and extend their winning streak to five games.
Ty France carried the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 night, scoring three runs and driving in one. France homered to center in the fourth inning, a 427-foot blast that stretched San Diego's lead to 3-0. Jackson Merrill added two hits including a towering 425-foot home run to right center in the seventh, while Ramon Laureano contributed a two-run homer to left center in the sixth.
The Padres built their advantage methodically, starting with Manny Machado's sacrifice fly in the first that scored Laureano. Freddy Fermin added another sacrifice fly in the second before France's solo shot opened the floodgates. Colorado briefly threatened in the fifth when Brett Sullivan doubled to right, scoring both Brenton Doyle and Ezequiel Tovar to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Machado answered immediately with an RBI single.
David Morgan earned the victory with 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out four while allowing just one walk. The Padres' pitching staff held Colorado to just two hits on the night. Jimmy Herget took the loss for the Rockies, allowing one run on one hit and one walk in his lone inning of work.
San Diego improved to 10-6 and sits in second place in their division. Colorado fell to 6-10 and has now lost four straight games. Machado sits two doubles away from 400 career doubles.
