Freddie Freeman discussed his recent hot hitting streak and the Los Angeles Dodgers' 8-3 loss to the New York Mets on July 26, 2026, following the team's road trip.
Freeman pointed to three multi-hit games in a row as evidence of his improved form at the plate. He explained that the difference has come from seeing better pitches and making sharper decisions in the batter's box. "I just got to better quality decisions and when you swing, I'm hitting the ball this time," he said.
Freeman noted that he had struggled with pitch recognition during the series in New York before making adjustments. He added that he returned to fundamentals to correct the issue. "I just kind of went back to the basics. I started hitting off the tee again and went back to my net drill," he explained.
Freeman also addressed the difficulty of the road trip, noting that the Dodgers won all three series despite losing off days along the way. "We're going to win all three series. It's a long trip. A lot of moving pieces, variables going on, losing off days," he said. He compared the day's starting pitcher's performance to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, saying the pitcher grinded through outings without his best stuff. "Just like Yoshi, sometimes when you don't have command and your best stuff, to still give us a chance like he did, that's all you can ask for," Freeman stated. He added that getting the opposing starter out of the game early was a key goal for the offense that day.
Freeman expressed enthusiasm for the return of reinforcements to the roster, including Edwin Diaz, who is returning to the Dodgers. "Edwin, it's awesome. That's some really quality reinforcements coming for us," he mentioned. He also reflected critically on one at-bat in which he fouled off pitches without squaring them up, acknowledging it did not meet his own standards. "That one I actually didn't like because I had a lot of pitches to hit and I didn't hit them," he said, adding when reminded of the at-bat, "So why'd you remind me? I didn't like that one."
