Justin Wrobleski delivered an 11-strikeout performance on July 1, 2026, earning his 10th win of the 2026 season as the winning pitcher in Dave Roberts' 1,000th career managerial victory with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Wrobleski said during a press conference that Roberts' milestone was on his mind before the game even began. "I really wanted to get this done for him," he said, adding that being part of the moment was meaningful given what Roberts has meant to his development. "Getting the chance to kind of be the winning pitcher in his thousandth win is super cool," Wrobleski noted. Dave Roberts has supported the career development of Wrobleski, and Roberts himself cited Wrobleski's performance on the mound as one of the reasons for the victory.
Wrobleski explained that his approach centered on reading and reacting to opposing hitters throughout the outing. "We just did a good job again reading and reacting to what they were doing and how they were approaching it," he stated, describing pitching as a chess match in which both sides are simultaneously trying to decode the other. "You're out there trying to figure out what they're doing, they're trying to figure out what you're doing, and at the end of the day, whoever does that better generally wins the game."
On the mechanics behind his 11 strikeouts, Wrobleski acknowledged mixing his pitches more than he typically does and credited precise fastball location. "I just mixed a lot more than I probably normally do today," he mentioned, adding, "I did a good job getting the fastballs up when I wanted to and throwing them at the bottom when I wanted to."
Wrobleski became only the third pitcher to reach 10 wins in the 2026 season, though he was measured about the milestone. "That's more of a team thing than it is a performance thing for me," he added, attributing the win total in part to run support and his ability to pitch deep into games.
