Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke at a team press conference on June 6, 2026, praising Yoshinobu Yamamoto for maintaining his competitive edge throughout the game despite a large lead.
Roberts noted that Yamamoto pitched as though the score was tied, continuing to generate soft contact and work efficiently against an aggressive-swinging opponent. Roberts did acknowledge, however, that Yamamoto made a mistake on a one-two fastball that Peraza turned into a home run.
Roberts credited a first-inning sequence as the turning point of the game, stating that Shohei Ohtani's infield hit followed by Andry's home run "kind of put to bed any type of momentum they had in the top of the first." He also noted the redemptive arc of Andrelton Simmons, who dropped a catchable ball in center field on what Roberts described as a Yamamoto mistake pitch, then responded with a home run in the bottom half of the same inning. "Got a glove on it, didn't come up with it, but for him to come back in that bottom half and homer was great to see," Roberts said.
On roster management, Roberts confirmed that Kyle was given a day off and will return to the lineup on June 7, 2026. Freddy, who Roberts said had played nine consecutive games entering the contest, was removed early to rest his legs ahead of a day game following a night game. Roberts also praised Ryan Ward, who is making his second stint in the major leagues as a product of the Dodgers' farm system, replacing All-Star Teo in the lineup. "You lose an All-Star in Teo, but you get a way to get a guy that's been in our system an opportunity and that's fun," Roberts added.
Roberts emphasized a broader offensive philosophy, stating that forcing opponents to exhaust their bullpen is a key team goal, and that defensive miscues by the opposition make the Dodgers significantly harder to beat. "You can't give good teams extra outs," he said. Acknowledging that several hitters have yet to reach their full potential, Roberts expressed confidence in the team's collective output, stating, "with the sum of the parts, we're still very good offensively."
