Angels outfielder Jorge Soler and Braves right-hander Reynaldo López each received seven-game suspensions and undisclosed fines following an on-field brawl on April 8, 2026.
López's suspension was later reduced to five games after reaching a settlement with MLB. Both players are appealing their suspensions and can continue playing until the appeals process is completed.
The incident began when López hit Soler with a pitch in the third inning, after Soler had launched a two-run home run off López in the first inning. When Soler came to bat again in the fifth inning, López threw a pitch up and in that did not hit Soler, but Soler took exception and stared López down before charging the mound.
Soler posted 12 home runs and 34 RBI in the 2025 season, matching his 12 home runs from the 2024 season when he drove in 40 runs. Players suspended for on-field infractions cannot be replaced on the roster, meaning both teams will play short-handed when the suspensions are served.
