Shane Baz signed a five-year extension with the Baltimore Orioles.
The deal covers the 2026-2030 seasons and is worth $68 million, carrying an average annual value of $13.6 million. Baz was previously scheduled to reach free agency after the 2028 season and had agreed to a $3.5 million salary for the 2026 season.
Baz made 31 starts and logged 166 1/3 innings in the 2025 season with a 4.87 ERA. He struck out 24.8% of batters faced with a 9% walk rate and a 46.7% ground ball rate. In the 2024 season, he made 14 starts for the Tampa Bay Rays with a 3.06 ERA, though his 21.6% strikeout rate and 8.5% walk rate were both around average.
The Baltimore Orioles acquired Baz from the Tampa Bay Rays in December 2025, sending prospects Slater de Brun, Caden Bodine, Michael Forret and Austin Overn along with a Competitive Balance Round A draft pick. The Pittsburgh Pirates originally drafted Baz with the 12th overall pick in 2017 before he was traded to the Rays in the 2018 Chris Archer trade.
