Tommy Kahnle Signs Minor League Deal with Red Sox

Tommy Kahnle signed a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox.

The 36-year-old right-hander posted a 4.43 ERA with an 18.7% strikeout rate during the 2025 season with Detroit. Kahnle started strong with a 1.77 ERA and 23.3% strikeout rate through July before struggling in the second half, allowing nearly eight runs per nine innings while walking more batters than he struck out.

Kahnle spent the 2025 season with the Tigers on a $7.75 million free agent deal and became an Article XX(b) free agent after finishing the season on Detroit's major league roster. The veteran reliever owns a 3.61 ERA across his 12-year MLB career.
