Baez, 33, has appeared in 24 games this season, batting .256 with a .678 OPS. The infielder has recorded 20 hits in 78 at-bats, including five doubles and two home runs while driving in six runs.

The Tigers currently sit at 18-21, second in the AL Central division and 2.5 games back. The team has lost four straight games entering the transaction.

The injury represents another setback for Detroit's roster composition, which now includes 12 pitchers, six infielders, five outfielders and two catchers on the active roster.
