Albies homered to right center to trim the gap to 3-2, and two batters later Dominic Smith turned the game around with a three-run homer to right, scoring Harris II and Dubón alongside himself to put Atlanta ahead 5-3. Drake Baldwin added another blast to right in the seventh to push the margin to 6-3.

Griffin Canning took the loss for San Diego, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits over 2.2 innings with 4 strikeouts, and fell to 1-9 with a 6.97 ERA. San Diego's bullpen worked 7.0 innings but allowed 6 runs (5 earned) as the Padres tried to claw back. Ty France homered to left in the eighth, scoring Machado to cut the deficit to 6-5, but the rally stalled there. France sits at 97 career home runs, three short of 100, and Machado remains six games from 2,000 for his career.

Atlanta improved to 60-42 and extended its winning streak to two games, holding the top spot in its division. San Diego dropped to 50-53, its second straight loss.
