It took extra innings to settle it, but Dillon Dingler made sure Detroit walked away with the win. The Tigers outscored the Cubs by three runs in a wild 10th inning, and Dingler was at the center of nearly every important swing, sending the Tigers to an 8-6 victory at Wrigley Field.

Dingler finished 4-for-5 with two home runs and 3 RBIs, the game's defining performance. He opened the scoring with a solo shot to center in the first inning, part of a four-run outburst that put Detroit ahead early. He struck again in the eighth inning with a solo homer to left center that put the Tigers back in front, 5-3. Then, with the game tied in the 10th, Dingler delivered again, this time with the bat that broke it open.
The Tigers' first-inning surge began with Riley Greene's three-run homer to right center, scoring Torres and Keith and giving Detroit a lead it would not relinquish until Chicago's rally much later. Dingler's solo homer immediately after made it 4-0. Chicago answered in the third when Seiya Suzuki homered to center to bring in Amaya, and Michael Busch followed with a solo shot of his own to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Cubs tied it in the eighth on Ian Happ's two-run homer to right center, scoring Bregman and squaring the score at 5-5. But in the 10th, Dingler reached on an infield single to shortstop that brought home Lee for the go-ahead run, and Spencer Torkelson followed with a single to center that scored both Dingler and Greene, pushing the lead to 8-5.
Chicago would not go quietly. Pedro Ramirez grounded into a fielder's choice in the bottom of the 10th that brought Bregman home, cutting the margin to 8-6, but the rally ended there. Cubs starter Jameson Taillon worked 4.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, while Trent Thornton took the loss after recording no outs and allowing 2 runs on 1 hit. Detroit's bullpen, which covered 6.0 innings and allowed 3 runs, got the win from Kenley Jansen, who struck out 2 over 1.0 inning, with Tyler Holton earning his first save after working a scoreless-adjacent 1.0 inning that included 1 run allowed.
The result snapped Chicago's momentum as the Cubs, now 56-44, dropped to a one-game losing streak, while Detroit improved to 47-53 after a game in which the Tigers won after a previous loss. Torkelson, who drove in 2 runs on a single, sits at 98 career home runs, two shy of the 100 mark.
