Sonny Gray made the early cushion stand up. The right-hander worked 6.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk on 91 pitches. He improved to 11-1 with a 2.54 ERA. On the other side, Nolan McLean pitched well enough to deserve a better fate — 6.0 innings, 7 strikeouts, 2 runs allowed, none of them earned — but the Mets' bullpen surrendered 4 runs over the final three innings, and McLean absorbed the loss to fall to 6-6.
Seigler provided the key blow in the seventh, homering to left — a 352-foot shot — with Tsung-Che Cheng aboard to push the lead to 4-1.
