Nothing was going to happen Sunday in Seattle. Emerson Hancock made sure of that. The right-hander held the Toronto Blue Jays to 2 hits and no runs over 7 innings, and the Mariners' offense did just enough to make it count in a 4-0 win at T-Mobile Park.
Hancock struck out 5, walked 2, and threw 92 pitches in his 7-inning effort. He picked up his sixth win against four losses, carrying a 3.23 ERA. Toronto managed only 3 hits on the night, and the Blue Jays never seriously threatened.
Seattle broke through in the third when Cal Raleigh hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Victor Robles to make it 1-0. The Mariners extended the lead in the fourth on Mitch Garver's two-run home run to left, a 377-foot shot that scored Cole Young and pushed the margin to 3-0. Garver finished 1-for-3 with 2 RBI. Josh Naylor added an insurance run in the eighth, scoring Randy Arozarena on an infield single to third.
Trey Yesavage took the loss for Toronto, falling to 4-4. He allowed 3 runs — 2 earned — on 3 hits over 6 innings, striking out 7 and walking 2 on 96 pitches. The offense behind him never found an answer for Hancock.
Seattle improved to 46-44, sitting atop the division. Toronto fell to 42-47.
