The lead changed hands three times at Coors Field on Monday, and it was Miami that held it last. The Marlins rallied from a three-run hole twice, scoring four runs in the fifth inning and four more in the seventh to pull away from Colorado, 10-7.
Griffin Conine delivered the decisive swing. With Miami trailing 5-3 in the fifth, Conine homered to right — 433 feet — with Edwards and Stowers aboard, giving the Marlins a 6-5 lead they would not relinquish. He finished 1-for-2 with a walk, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Javier Sanoja added to the damage in the seventh, tripling to right to score Caissie, Stowers and Conine and push the lead to 9-5. Joe Mack followed with an infield single to third that scored Sanoja, making it 10-5. Sanoja went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI on the night. Otto Lopez also homered for Miami, a solo shot to right center in the fifth, going 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Colorado had built its early advantage through the second and third innings. McCarthy's double to left scored Carrigg and Karros to give the Rockies a 3-2 lead in the second, and Karros doubled to left in the third to score Johnston and Carrigg, extending the margin to 5-2. Hunter Goodman homered to left center in the seventh — 442 feet — and Mickey Moniak grounded out in the ninth to score Julien, but Colorado could not close the gap. Goodman finished 2-for-5 with 1 RBI.
Sandy Alcantara started for Miami and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks over 5.2 innings, striking out 3 on 96 pitches. He received no decision, remaining 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA.
